In its fifth edition, the International Festival of Contemporary Music Creation Vertixe Sonora 2017 extends its range of action incorporating new spaces of acoustic or architectural relevance in the cities of Vigo and Pontevedra.

With a strong artistic identity that is committed to local production of knowledge, international dialogue and the strengthening of its educational dimension, the festival expands through the territory and continues to investigate new strategies of connection between the new experimental sounds, the citizenship and the groups most involved in the creation current

There will be 11 concerts and 4 stars, which will be the result of networking with different international institutions that will allow us to listen to Ensemble Sillages (Brest, France), Defunensemble (Helsinki, Finland), Ensemble Tag (Winterthur, Switzerland) for the first time in Galicia, and some of the best soloists in the state such as Sisco Aparici (Valencia), Alberto Rosado (Salamanca) or Roberto Alonso (Vigo), with the Cypriot composer Tychonas Michailidis (Limassol, Cyprus).

The resident ensemble, Vertixe Sonora, will tour two routes of acoustic modernity. The first, The flickering sound of the meaning, will face essential chaos and disturbance in the work of the Israeli-based activist, composer and improviser Dror Feiler (Israel / Sweden) with the delicate refinement of the Mexican Baca Lobera and the Impalpable / Corporeal score of Þráinn Hjálmarsson ( Iceland). The second, under the Eleusis program for the visibility of women composers and sound artists, will present the final work of Lula Romero (Spain) Die Wanderung project awarded with the Kompositionsstipendium 2015 of the Department of Culture of the city of Berlin, which opens six new works written for Vertixe Sonora.

The festival also hosts the free improvisation workshop by Dror Feiler; lectures on music and sound arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts, the programs for primary and secondary of MUSICAPORDENTRO, etc. All activities that will allow to know the contexts of current sound creation by the hand of its protagonists.

A strategic commitment for culture in Galicia valued internationally for its quality and significance in terms of musical research. An opportunity to take the lead of sound creation in real time, carried out under criteria of qualification and rigor in the quest for excellence, positioning at the forefront of the international scene and the brand image associated with the innovation that define the institutional identity of the University of Vigo and the Campus Crea S2i .
